Ghost Train
a forest green jelly base full of colorful flakies and a pink to gold magnetic effect.
I've shown it below in two coats, both magnetized and not. It is crazy how different this polish looks, I did a double take and wondered if I had labeled my images wrong! But nope, this is just one polish.
Not magnetized is first, look at that green shift!
Magnetized with a Masura bar magnet. The trick to getting a tight line is to magnetize as soon as the polish is applied to each nail. It takes a little more time to do them one by one like that, but so worth it! I can't get over how duochromey it looks!
Day Tripper
a periwinkle holographic with bright blue to green shifting shimmer, a mix of holographic glitters and shimmers, and iridescent flakies.
My favorite of the trio. It shifts so much that it keeps you guessing what color it actually is! Shown in two coats below.

DeleteJen, how long do you have to keep the magnet in place? I've tried so many brands and so many magnets and I never get anything. :(
ReplyDeleteThere could be a few different culprits, I'll describe how I do it and maybe something there will help.
Deleteshake the polish really well right before using, magnetic pigment can settle since it tends to be a little heavier.
apply one coat to one nail and magnetize by holding the magnet as close to the nail as possible without touching the nail. Keep this there for a minute or so. (a lot of people say 20 seconds, but I hold it quite a bit longer)
Move to the next nail and repeat. Then do a second coat the same way, one nail at a time.
Topcoat rewets it as well, so repeat the same magnetizing step with each nail when you top coat. It's very time consuming, but I've gotten consistent results this way.
Thought of something else. When pulling the magnet away from the nail you've just finished, pull vertically upward toward the sky. Movement to the side or down can move the magnetic particles.
DeleteI also make sure my fingers are spread apart well when I'm magnetizing. Those magnets are strong and will pull the particles in toward themeselves from nearby objects. You can test this with the bottle of polish or another magnet - even inches away and they'll attract.
